Bowman Gum’s 1954 Football set consists of 128 cards, each 2-1/2” by 3-3/4”. Each card front features a colorized likeness of a player, with a white banner at the bottom border containing his name, team affiliation and mascot. Card backs again identify the player’s name along with statistics and a quiz. The 1954 Bowman set is anchored by Ray Mathews (#1), Joe Perry (#6), Norm Van Brocklin (#8), Pete Pihos (#9), Elroy Hirsch (#32), Otto Graham (#40), Doak Walker (#41), Y.A. Tittle (#42), Lou Groza (#52), Bobby Layne (#53) and Frank Gifford (#55), as well as by the rookie cards of Doug Atkins (#4), George Blanda (#23) and John Lattner (#128). Mid-series cards (#s 65-96) are short prints and thus among the most difficult pieces in this set to find.
Presented is a complete set of 1954 Bowman football cards set 128/128. The highlight is that the George Blanda #23 card is encapsulated and graded by SGC VG 3. The rest of the cards are in starter set grade condition with some better than others. See photos for condition assessment. Also to note, the set includes correct version of the cards of Tom Finnan (#97) and Emlen Tunnel (#102).
