John Elway was the first overall pick by the Baltimore Colts in 1983, and was known for being clutch in an amazing 6 playoff-game winning drives during his NFL career. The Hall of Fame quarterback also led the Denver Broncos to the first of consecutive Super Bowl victories in 1997.
Presented is John Elway a game-issued Broncos navy blue home jersey. It was originally obtained by his teammate Neil Smith and includes a provenance letter from him. The team issue jersey was given to him by Elway following the 1997 NFL season.
This particular color scheme and style was first introduced in 1997. It features orange side trim and his “7” in white/orange tackle twill on the front and back, and both shoulders. “ELWAY” is also in white lettering stitched to a blue nameplate and sewn across the back shoulders. A white Nike Swoosh is stitched to each shoulder below the number. The NFL Shield is sewn to the center of the collar. “Broncos” is embroidered in white above the front number. In the tail, the Nike Team Sports, cloth tag is stitched. “NFL Pro Line” shares the right side of this tag with a custom LONGS flap tag. In the back collar, is embroidered with “97 – 44.” The wash tag is stitched to the right-side seam.
The jersey also features a beautiful autograph by Elway in black felt tip pen on the back number (“9”) for added value.
