Kissing on V-J Day in Times Square NYC. Photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt that portrays a U.S. Navy sailor embracing and kissing a total stranger—a dental assistant—on Victory over Japan Day in New York City’s Times Square on August 14, 1945. The photograph was published a week later in Life magazine. Alfred Eisenstaedt took the picture but neglected to get the names, numerous people have claimed to be the subjects. For decades, George Mendonsa said he was the sailor and Greta Zimmer Friedman was the nurse in the photo. For years, Muscarello insisted he was, both Sailors have passed away and truth with them.
Presented is a “12 X 15.5” framed famous black and white photo of the celebration of the victory over Japan on the streets of New York City. Carl Muscarello signed the photo in black felt pen (“9”) and with the inscription, “Best Wishes”.
