Malcolm McDowell Signed Photo 8×10 – COA JSA

This item originates from the Roy Moseley collection. Moseley was one of the leaders in show business journalism in England. He wrote many books that appeared on the New York Time’s Best Seller List. Being an author in high regard had its perks, as he was closely connected to royalty and celebrities. Hence his notable work, “My Stars and Other Friends” provides a glimpse into the lifestyle us everyday people dream about. During his career, Moseley brilliantly gathered in person some of the finest autographs in the world. Some were personalized to him as a testament to their respect and kinship. Every celebrity has a story as well as every autograph Moseley obtained. Here now is one of those legacy pieces for your collection.

In a career spanning over 50 years, Malcolm McDowell has played varied film roles across different genres as a character actor. He is perhaps best known for the controversial roles of Alex DeLarge in Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange (1971), the title character in Tinto Brass’s Caligula (1979), and Mick Travis in Lindsay Anderson’s trilogy of if…. (1968), O Lucky Man! (1973) and Britannia Hospital (1982). He has appeared in films such as Time After Time (1979), Cat People (1982), Star Trek Generations (1994), Tank Girl (1995), I Spy (2002), Easy A (2010) and The Artist (2011). He also appeared as Dr. Samuel Loomis in the 2007 remake Halloween and its 2009 sequel, Halloween II. He portrayed businessman Rupert Murdoch in the drama Bombshell (2019).

Presented is an 8×10 black and white promotional photo of McDowell from The Raging Moon. It is a 1971 British film starring McDowell and Nanette Newman and based on the book by British novelist Peter Marshall. Adapted and directed by Bryan Forbes (Newman’s husband), this “romance in wheelchairs” was considered unusual in its time owing in part to the sexual nature of the relationship between McDowell and Newman, who play disabled people. The film received two Golden Globe nominations, for Best Foreign Film (English Language), and Best Song for Long Ago Tomorrow.

He signed the photo for Roy in blue pen (“8”) with the lovely inscription, “To Roy – Lots of Love – Thank You”. The photo itself has some age wear and is notated on the verso.
