A man on a mission. That’s what Michael Jordan was ready for rolling into the 1986-87 season. When a debilitating ankle injury forced him out for nearly all of the previous season, . he was stoked to put the NBA on notice. It was his personal mission to destroy all the competition in his way.
What the league saw in 1986-87 was a scoring barrage of the kind we’ve never seen again since. Jordan played all 82 games, scoring 40+ against 20 different NBA opponents while winning his first scoring title and averaging 37 points. He also played in the NBA All-Star Game and won the Slam-Dunk Championship. He set a Bulls single-season records for points (3,041), field goals (1,098), free throws (833), and steals (236). His output was rewarded with the first in a series of All-NBA First Team selections.
