This item originates from the Louis Basil collection. In the mid-1950’s, Basil moved his family from Chicago to Las Vegas to become one of the city’s best orchestra leaders. He orchestrated at many places with many headlining stars throughout the United States over many years. He performed in places like The Carman Theater in Philadelphia, Loew’s State Theater in New York, The Chicago Theatre in Chicago, The Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas and The Sahara Hotel Las Vegas. Basil obtained these autographed items in person and many were personalized to him or his family members.
Known professionally as Tony Martin, was an American actor and popular singer. His career spanned over seven decades, and he scored dozens of hits between the late-1930s and mid-1950s with songs such as “Walk Hand in Hand”, “Stranger in Paradise” and “I Get Ideas”. He was married to actress and dancer Cyd Charisse for 60 years, from 1948 until her death in 2008.
Presented is an 8×10 black and white promotional photo autographed by Tony Martin. He signed the photo in black felt tip (“8” some mild hand transfer is present) with a lengthy inscription, “Louis – So wonderful working with you again – many thanks.”
