Violet Schmidt (Weitzman) nickname “Vi” signed with Rockford Peaches and spent one year with them. Following the season, she married and retired from the league. Before joining the league, she was already a celebrity. A book entitled “The Little Girl Who Waved” chronicled her childhood love of a local train, “The 20th Century Limited,” which she waived to, rain or shine.

The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) was a professional women’s baseball league founded by Philip K. Wrigley which existed from 1943 to 1954. The AAGPBL is the forerunner of women’s professional league sports in the United States. Over 600 women played in the league. It was not really a well-known fact until filmmaker Penny Marshall premiered her 1992 film A League of Their Own.

Presented is an unofficial MacGregor baseball autographed by Violet Schmidt Weitzman. She signed the ball “Violet Schmidt Rockford Peaches 1949″ on the side panel in black ballpoint (“7-8”), the signature is mussed which does not detract from the signature
